All-County Teams

Congratulations to the following players and coaches!  To see the final division standings, click here. We have replaced "Rookie of the Year" with "Newcomer of the Year". The criteria for that award has not changed, it is open for any first year player on their team, whether they were on JV in previous years, transferred into MCPS, or are a freshman.

4A East Division

Coach of the Year: Tim Hobbs, Sherwood HS
Sherwood had an 9 game improvement this year behind upperclass leadership and some star freshmen. Hobbs guided the Warriors to a Division co-championship, finishing 7-1 and splitting their head to head match-ups with Paint Branch. This was Sherwood's first division title since 1998. They also finished tied for first in the 4A North Section 2 and won the coin flip to be the #1 seed.

Player of the Year: Patricia Anumgba, Paint Branch HS junior
Anumgba was a dominate force in Montgomery County this year, averaging 21.4 points per game off 43 3-pointers. She shot 81% from the FT line and added 3 assists per game and 3 rebounds per game. She finished with 13 games of 20+ points and two games over 30, including 33 in a win over Whitman.

Newcomer of the Year: Angela Nnabue, Sherwood HS freshman
Angela made an immediate impact on the Warriors as she led them in scoring with 15.5 points per game. She also averaged 5 rebounds per game, 4 steals per game, and she led MCPS with 4 assists per game (Washington Post). She had a season high 31 points against Paint Branch.

4A South Division

Co-Coach of the Year:  Kate Blanken, Churchill HS & Anthony Williams, Einstein HS
Both Churchill and Einstein showed tremendous improvement this year. Churchill improved from 15-9 to 21-1, finish co-champions in the division and earning the #1 seed in 4A West Section 1. Einstein made a similar jump from the bottom of the division. In his first year, Williams led the Titans as they improved from 2-19 to 10-11.

Player of the Year: Brittini Martin, Churchill HS junior
Martin has been the leader of a Churchill team that finished 21-1 and ranked #1 in our Montgomery County Top 10.  She "only" averages 15.6 points per game, as Churchill has only played a few games that were in doubt heading into the 4th quarter. She has been a star in big games with 31 points verse Whitman, 20 against Sherwood, and 16 in a win over Paint Branch. She has made 23 3's, averaged 3.6 assists per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Newcomer of the Year: Izzy Walusko, Einstein HS freshman
Izzy was an important part of a revitalized Einstein team that finished 10-11 after going 2-19 last year, giving them another scoring option next to Mary McDonnell. Izzy averaged 11 points per game, 3 rebounds per game, and 2 steals per game. She averaged 20 PPG over the last 4 games.

4A West Division

Coach of the Year: Sissy Natoli, Clarksburg HS
Clarksburg finished 7-1 in 4A West, winning the division, on the way to a 17-5 regular season record and the #1 seed in the MPSSAA 4A West Section 2 playoffs.

Player of the Year: Anujin Dashdorj, Richard Montgomery HS junior
Anujin transferred to Richard Montgomery from St. John's College Prep. She made an immediate impact, averaging 20 points per game, 5 assists per game, 5 rebounds per game, and 5 steals per game.  She had 29 points vs Gaithersburg and 27 vs Clarksburg.

3A/2A Division

Coach of the Year: Fred Swick, Poolesville HS
After graduating 80% of his starting lineup from last year, Swick led the Falcons to another 3A/2A Division championship, finishing 7-1 including a season ending win over Damascus to seal the championship. Poolesville finished with a 12 game win streak to finish 18-4 overall and earn the #2 seed in 2A West Section 2.

Player of the Year: Julia Tomlinson, Damascus HS senior
On a very balanced team that finished T-2 in the division and as the #3 seed in the 2A West Section 2 playoffs, Julia Tomlinson stood above.  She finished with an average of 10 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, 4 assist per game, and 2 steals per game. Tomlinson continues the long line of Damascus players who make an impact in all areas of the game.

Newcomer of the Year: Naila Newman, Rockville HS freshman
Newman was one of the top freshmen in MCPS, leading Rockville to a 6-2 record and second place finish in their division and a #2 seed in the 3A West Section 1. She averaged 12.8 points per game, 3.4 steals per game, and 3.5 assists per game.
