#1 - Whitman HS (14-1)
Whitman continues to solidify their hold on the #1 ranking with two wins over BCC in a one week span and wins over a much improved Einstein and Blair teams. The next two weeks will determine if Whitman can hold off Churchill for the #1 seed in their district and for the #4ASouth division title as the Vikings play #2 Churchill and #4 Paint Branch successively.

#2 - Churchill HS (14-1)
Churchill capped off another dominating two weeks by beating Einstein, #3 Sherwood (by 30), WJ (13), Wheaton and #6 Damascus. Their NBA schedule continues with 5 games over the next two weeks, including their journey into Bethesda for battles at #6 BCC and #1 Whitman over 3 days.

#3 - Sherwood HS (13-2)
So far the Warriors have really only played one complete game when they beat Paint Branch in a game that wasn't as close at the score. Since then, they have beat Springbrook and Blair (in OT), but did not dominate either team like they should have. They have a tough week ahead with games at #7 Poolesville (one of the toughest places to play in MCPS) and at #4 Paint Branch. How good can this young team be?

#4 - Paint Branch HS (11-3) - Northwood on Thursday, Springbrook on Friday
After an 11 day break thanks to ill-timed weather, the Panthers dominated Kennedy 77-13. The break also coincided with athletic director Heather Podosek's return to the PB bench. Coach Podosek was the longtime PB coach who has won 3 state titles. Paint Branch will be the scene of several top MCPS games over the next two weeks as #3 Sherwood, #1 Whitman, and #6 BCC come to town!

#5 - Clarksburg HS (13-2)
Clarksburg has quietly dominated the top part of the county since the near year as they are 7-1 since January 1st. Their two losses are still by a combined 7 points but they did struggle to close out Gaithersburg on Friday, winning 55-53. Coach Natoli has a young team that plays without fear. Their next two weeks including games against Wootton and Watkins Mill who are in down years, but they also go outside of #MoCoGBB to face Urbana and have a tough game at Damascus.

#6 - BCC HS (9-5)
BCC is 5-2 over their last seven. Only won team has beaten them, unfortunately they had to play #1 Whitman twice in a seven day period. The Barons had a little reprieve against Northwest, but they have at least three tough tests these next two weeks as they host Churchill on 1/28, a very improved Einstein team on 1/30 and head to Paint Branch on 2/5.

#7 - Poolesville HS (12-4)
After a last-second loss to #8 Damascus, Poolesville has quietly run off six wins in a row. Their schedule gets a little harder as they host #3 Sherwood and #5 Clarksburg in their next four games while also playing tough Rockville and Blair. Thanks to Rockville's upset of Damascus, if Poolesville can run the table including a win over Damascus in the last game of the year, they would repeat as division champions.

Key Losses - Damascus, Middletown, Whitman, and BCC
Games next 2 weeks - 1/28 - Sherwood (7:15 pm), 1/30 - at Rockville (7:15 pm), 2/1 - Blair (5:30)
#8 - Damascus HS (9-5)
Damascus drops in the poll as they dropped back to back games vs Rockville and Churchill. The Hornets still control their own destiny in their division. If they can complete the season sweep of Poolesville (and win their remaining 3A/2A games), they would reclaim the division title. They get back to work with a couple managable games before hosting Clarksburg (non-division game) on 2/1.

#9 - Quince Orchard HS (8-6)
QO makes their first appearance in the poll as they have won three in a row, including impressive wins over Richard Montgomery and Gaithersburg, both of whom appeared in the first poll. They also handled Einstein, going to a Box +1 in the second half to control Mary McDonnell who had 15 in the first half. QO has one of the easiest remaining schedules in MCPS as they face Northwest, Wootton, Seneca Valley, Springbrook, Kennedy, at Watkins Mill in 6 of their last 8 games. They also play Churchill and Gaithersburg. Fourteen wins are easily manageable by this group.

RM closes out this version of the poll, just edging out Gaithersburg (who they have lost to head to head). RM sandwiched two wins over winless Wootton around upset loses to QO and Rockville. They have a chance to give some payback to Rockville and Gaithersburg this week as they play both of them.
