Toughest MCPS Schedules
The MCPS schedule is basically set for all teams by the county. Each team plays the other teams in their division in an unbalanced schedule (meaning they only play some teams twice) for a total of 8 games. Then each team plays the other teams in their section. Finally, their schedules are rounded out to form 20 games that the MPSSAA will use to seed the section tournaments. The teams then play these schedules for a two-year cycle with the games being a mirror image for those two years (ie: Poolesville plays at Whitman in year one and then they play at Poolesville in year two). Teams can up to drop up to two MCPS games (they must declare it before the two years scheduling commences) to play private schools, Frederick County schools, or in tournaments like the She Got Game. The teams are allowed to play up to two games in a holiday tournament and these games are not counted by MPSSAA in section tournament seeding.

I don’t understand the point of this list. If a team has played a majority of teams on the list and beaten them all, their ‘opponents winning percentage’ will obviously be lower. That is, beating teams on the list will move you further down the ranking! Or am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteDoug - sorry, delayed reply! Yes, generally speaking, teams that have better records won't top the list because they cannot play themselves. Also, since MCPS controls the scheduling, this exercise is taken with a certain grain of salt, however, I find it interesting to see who has benefited from certain match-ups this year and who has had a very tough road (BCC for instance). This exercise does help when comparing teams for top 10 rankings.
