MoCo 2020 All-Division Awards
Congratulations to the following players and coaches!
We added a new category this year, Defensive Player of the Year! Remember the criteria for Newcomer of the Year is for any first-year player on their team, whether they were on JV in previous years, transferred into the county or to MCPS from a private school, or are a freshman.
4A North Division
Coach of the Year: Jocara Knight, Paint Branch HS
In his first year, Coach Knight continued the legacy of great Paint Branch basketball. He led the Panthers to an undefeated division title and won the region, falling to Churchill in the Maryland 4A State Semifinals.
Player of the Year: Patricia Anumgba, Paint Branch HS senior
Anumgba was her normal dominant force in Montgomery County this year, repeating as division POY. The future UMBC player averaged 25.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 6 assists per game and 3 steals per game.
Defensive Player of the Year: Cynthia Stewart, Paint Branch HS senior
Stewart was a defensive force for the Panthers, helping to lead them to a division title. She averaged 5 steals per game and 4 rebounds per game. She takes her tenacity to Geneva College next year.
Newcomer of the Year: Natalie Frost, Blair HS freshman
Frost made an immediate impact with Blair as she dropped 218 points during her freshman season, shooting 39% from the field. She also had the 2nd highest free throw percentage on the team. Many opposing coaches commented about her game and the impact that she will have in future years.

4A South Division
Coach of the Year: Kate Blanken, Churchill HS
Churchill has been the dominant team in MCPS play as Blanken is honored by her peers with her second consecutive 4A South COY award. The Bulldogs went a perfect 8-0 in division play, won the region for the first time since 2003, and handled Paint Branch in the State Quarterfinals. Churchill's season ended with the Maryland 4A State Semifinals when the MPSSAA suspended the season.
Player of the Year: Brittini Martin, Churchill HS senior & Parker Hill, Churchill HS junior
Since Churchill has been the dominant team in MCPS, it is appropriate that Martin and Hill share co-Players of the Year honors. Martin, the senior point guard, averaged 16.3 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, and 2 assists per game. Martin is still undecided on her college plans. Hill paced the Bulldogs with 16 points per game and averaged a double-double, adding 11 rebounds per game. She also distributed the ball, averaging 2 assists per game.
Defensive Player of the Year: Brittini Martin, Churchill HS senior & Parker Hill, Churchill HS junior
Not only did they share POY honors, Martin and Hill shared DPOY honors for the Bulldogs who surrendered only 29 points per game as a team. Martin averaged 2 steals per game while being the player called upon to put pressure on the ball, creating defensive opportunities for the rest of the team. Hill was the rim protector that allowed the team to gamble on the perimeter. She averaged 3.5 steals per game and 3 blocks per game while also cleaning up the defensive boards.
Newcomer of the Year: Kaitlin Mariani, Wootton HS freshman
Wootton had the greatest increase in win total from last year to this year and Mariani spearheaded that jump for Coach Dyer. Mariani averaged 11.1 points per game and an astonishing 11.8 assists per game for a rare points-assists double-double. She led the DMV in assists this year. The future is bright for her!

Coach of the Year: Sissy Natoli, Clarksburg HS
Clarksburg finished 8-0 in 4A West, winning the division, and winning their first region title before falling in the State Quarterfinals. Clarksburg finished the season 18-5 with back to back division titles and that has earned Natoli back to back COY awards.
Player of the Year: Jada Thornton, Gaithersburg HS senior
Thornton filled the scorebook this year as she averaged 22 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, 5 assists per game. Through the years, she has continued to be a dominant scoring force in Montgomery County, but this year she accounted for almost 35 of the Trojans scoring if you add in her assists.
Defensive Player of the Year: Alex Boggs, Quince Orchard HS junior
The first DPOY in 4A West is Alex Boggs from QO who helped lead them to a region final appearance and a runner up finish in the division. Boggs finished with 65 blocks this year, over 3 per game.
Newcomer of the Year: Alanna Tate, Clarksburg HS freshman
Every year Clarksburg seems to have an impact freshman, and this year was no different. Alanna Tate came in to contribute 5.5 points per game, shooting 44% from the field. She regularly defended the opponents' best shooters, showing great hustle and great energy on the defensive end.

Gregg led the Rams on an incredible run this year. They finished tied for first in their division with Poolesville at 6-1 with wins over Poolesville and RM. They finished 16-7 for the year and then went on a run to win their region and a Maryland 2A State Quarterfinal. Their run ended when MPSSAA suspended the season with an upcoming game in the Maryland State Semifinals.
Player of the Year: Jasia Oliver, Seneca Valley HS senior
For several years, Jasia Oliver has filled up the stat sheet, this year was no different. She led Seneca Valley with 22 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and 4 steals per game. She was 8th in scoring in the DMV and surpassed 1000 points in her high school career. Oliver is still uncommitted where she will take her talent next year in college.
Defensive Player of the Year: Naila Newman, Rockville HS sophomore
Last year's Newcomer of the Year and a Player of the Year candidate, Newman is this year's Defensive Player of the Year. Newman averaged 4.6 steals per game, showing that she was capable of lockdown defensive as well as being able to score.
Newcomer of the Year: Irene Lee, Damascus HS freshman
Damascus graduated a lot of talent, but as usual, they always bring in freshmen who can contribute. Lee is the next line of great Damascus players, as she started at the point guard from day one as a freshman. She averaged 7.8 points per game, 7 assists per game, 3 steals per game, and 3 rebounds per game.
